The East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) School of Pharmacy and GEA Process Engineering China reached an agreement in April 2011 to build a pharmaceutical processing research laboratory. The laboratory has started operation in September 2011.
The East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST) School of Pharmacy consists of Pharmaceutical Engineering Department, Pharmacy Department, a teaching centre, a research institute, and three research centres. The School employs 25 professors, 33 associate professors and offers three bachelor’s, nine master’s, and five doctoral degree programs.The bachelor’s programs are: Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Engineering and Pharmaceutics; the master’s programs are: Pharmacy, Chemical Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Plant Protection and Traditional Chinese Medicine etc.; The PhD programs are: Pharmacy, Medicinal Chemistry, Pesticides, Chemical Biotechnology, and Pharmaceutical Engineering.
Combining ECUST School of Pharmacy’s strong R&D support and GEA’s advanced pharmaceutical equipment, the laboratory is capable of providing the following services to enhance the competitiveness of Chinese pharmaceutical companies in both international and local market to enhance the competitiveness of Chinese pharmaceutical companies in both international and local markets.

By combining the state-of–the-art technologies from GEA Pharma Systems companies, the laboratory is capable to offer facilities for direct compression, dry powder inhalation, effervescent tablet pelletization, extrusion and spheronization pelletization, extrusion and cutting granulation, controlled-release pellet coating and pellet compression.
With ECUST School of Pharmacy’s strong R&D capabilities, the laboratory can work with pharmaceutical companies to develop new products by offering services such as formulation research and investigation, formulation screening, scale up , and technical support for quality evaluation of formulation. Techniques and total solutions available include: taste masking, improving drug solubility and bioavailability, increase drug stability, controlled-release development, and biotechnology drug production.
