GEA donates EUR 50,000 for victims of Chinese earthquake


Bochum, July 29, 2008 – GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft has donated EUR 50,000 to the Red Cross in China for the reconstruction of a school in the Chinese earthquake region of Szechwan. The region, which is located approximately 1,500 km southwest of Beijing, was hit by a major earthquake on May 12, 2008. The earthquake destroyed whole towns and parts of cities. Housing blocks, factories, and schools collapsed. According to official information a total of about 70,000 people lost their lives, 375,000 were wounded, and a further 20,000 people are still missing. Although none of GEA's employees in China, which now number around 1,200, was directly affected, the company's intention in making this donation is to exercise its social responsibility on a local basis, and above all to help children affected in the catastrophe region.
